The other half of tracking is receiving the telemetry (and often images) from the balloon tracker.
The tracking equipment and software depends on the type of tracker – for example RTTY, LoRa or APRS. I tend to use LoRa because the receiving setup is simpler than the RTTY, and because APRS is not allowed in the UK, so most of the following is about LoRa.
For a fixed location, though it can be used mobile (I have one in my chase car):
LoRa really comes into its own for mobile tracking, where a simple and tiny receiver can be connected to a phone or tablet or even built inside a watch!:
- HAB Explora – Android/iOS Phone App
- HAB PADD – Android Tablet or iPad App
- Handheld Receiver based on Arduino
- Self-contained HAB Watch
